Boost for Tottenham Hotspur in Ruben Neves pursuit
Tottenham Hotspur have received a boost in their pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves. According to the Express, Wolverhampton Wanderers have already identified PSG’s Idrissa Gueye as a replacement for their star midfielder.
The 23-year-old has Neves has made 43 appearances this term, contributing with four goals and two assists. He has played a key role in his team’s rise up the table. Just five points off Chelsea, they are better placed than us in aiming for a Champions League spot.
In an added benefit, PSG are open to letting Gueye leave. The French champions are keen on rebuilding their midfield. The former Evertonian is a player they are willing to sell. (h/t Express)
Neves is a well-rounded player who can slot into the midfield quite comfortably. A truly dynamic presence, his distribution and passing ability will be an excellent addition to our armoury.
Spurs already have a frontline brimming with talent. To have a player of Neves’ vision supplying them is an exciting proposition. More so his ability on the set-piece, combined with his knack of scoring long-ranged shots, adds another goalscoring threat.
Jose Mourinho is aware of the player’s ability. He had earlier praised his performances during his time at Manchester United. (h/t MEN)
Neves played a key role in Wolves’s successful 2017-18 season. They won the Championship and returned to the Premier League after six years. His performances saw him nominated for the PFA Championship Team of the Year and the EFL Championship Team of the Season.

Neves has also won 16 caps for the Portuguese national team. He was part of the squad that won the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League.
A new defensive midfielder of Neves’ quality would be a good addition to the squad, no doubt. But given the current financial circumstances, it remains to be seen if the club goes after the Portuguese.
