Tottenham, Liverpool to battle for Wolves star Ruben Neves
According to a report from French publication Le10Sport (h/t Birmingham Live), Tottenham Hotspur will have to battle with Premier League leaders Liverpool in the race to sign Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.
The 23-year-old Portuguese has been a central figure in the Nuno Espirito Santo-led revolution at the Molineux Stadium. Having arrived at the club in 2017, Neves has grown into a midfield linchpin for Wolves.
Neves has made 43 appearances in all competitions this term, contributing with four goals and two assists. One of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League, the Portuguese is also known for his set-piece prowess and goal-scoring ability from distance.
And as per the aforementioned report, Tottenham are interested in securing the services of the midfielder. It is well-known that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is a fan of his compatriot and tried to recruit him back at Manchester United.
Having failed to land him then, Mou is now keen on signing Neves at Tottenham. However, Spurs will face competition from Premier League leaders Liverpool, who are also monitoring the midfielder. (h/t Birmingham Live)
Tottenham currently lack a proper defensive midfielder in the ranks, which could be addressed by the signing of Neves. Adept at breaking up play in the centre, the Portuguese also is gifted with great vision, while his ability to score stunners from distance would endear him to the fans.

Only last week, reports had emerged claiming that Wolves are already looking at a replacement for their star man, hinting at the possibility of a summer exit.
However, we will be working on a restrained budget this summer, due to the coronavirus. This ought to hinder our attempts to sign Neves. Liverpool’s interest only complicates matters further.
