Southampton slap £35m price tag on Tottenham target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
As reported by the Daily Echo, Premier League outfit Southampton have placed a £35m price tag on captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur.
Things seem to be picking up very fast in the Hojbjerg transfer story. The midfielder is entering the final year of his contract with the Saints. And Tottenham have expressed an interest in securing his services this summer.
Over the last week, two key figures at Southampton, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl and CEO Martin Semmens, hinted that the club will let Hojbjerg leave, should an appropriate offer come along.
Earlier on Tuesday, it emerged that Tottenham are readying an opening bid to secure the services of the 24-year-old Danish international. Now, the club have learnt that it will take an offer of £35m in order to sign Hojbjerg this summer.
Tottenham had hoped that the price tag would be lower, considering Hojbjerg’s contract status. However, Southampton believe that given his age and his standing at the club, the valuation of £35m is an apt one. (h/t Daily Echo)
It is no secret that Tottenham are lacking a quality defensive midfielder in the ranks. With Eric Dier likely to move to a centre-back role, we are in need of a quality No.6 heading into next season.

Hojbjerg, to that end, would be a fine acquisition. A proven commodity in the Premier League, at 24, he will be a long-term asset for the club. He has had an impressive 2019/20 campaign, helping Southampton push away from the threat of relegation.
Hojbjerg has hinted that he is willing to join Tottenham this summer. With Saints willing to sell and setting a price, it is now up to Daniel Levy to close the deal.
