Tottenham, Arsenal ready to show support for Black Lives Matter movement once PL returns
According to a report from ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur are one among a few Premier League clubs that are ready to back a show of support for the Black Lives Matter movement once football resumes in a couple of weeks.
The movement has been gathering huge momentum across the globe, in response to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, USA.
Clubs in the Bundesliga have joined in to show their support. Players and coaches from both Borussia Dortmund and Hertha Berlin kneeled before kickoff and had a moment of silence last weekend. Champions Bayern Munich wore T-shirts that read “Red against Racism” prior to their match. Players of a number of other clubs also went down on their knees to show solidarity. (h/t ESPN)
Premier League clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea have also showed their support, having published images of their first-team squads taking the knee before training sessions. (h/t ESPN)
Earlier this week the FA released a statement claiming that players will not be punished for showing their support to the movement. And now, the report states that the matter will be up for discussion in tomorrow’s Premier League shareholders meeting.
Tottenham are expected to throw their weight behind the motion for players to take the knee prior to kickoff. Along with our club, rivals Arsenal too are likely to back the motion. (h/t ESPN)
These are no fans of ours. This Club does not tolerate racist, discriminatory or hateful behaviour of any kind. We are looking into this and will take the necessary action against any so-called ‘fan’ involved. https://t.co/0cB0SfjnZE
