Rennes demand €20m for Tottenham Hotspur target M’Baye Niang
According to a report from Le Parisien (h/t Football.london), Tottenham have been told to shell out €20m if they want to sign Rennes attacker M’Baye Niang this summer.
The 25-year-old Niang has enjoyed a resurgence of sorts since joining Rennes in 2018 from Serie A club Torino. Having moved to the club initially on loan, he joined them permanently last summer.
Niang went on to have an impressive 2019/20 campaign, finishing with 15 goals and 2 assists from 36 matches in all competitions. His performances have put him on the radars of a number of clubs including Tottenham Hotspur.
It is no secret at this point that Tottenham are in urgent need of reinforcements in the attack. The lack of a backup for Harry Kane has come back to bite us this season. The club’s form suffered in his injury-enforced absence.
So, it is imperative that the club brings in a new striker come summer. And while Niang isn’t an out-and-out striker, the Senegalese international can play through the middle. Indeed, he has been used centrally by Rennes for the majority of the 2019/20 campaign.
The 25-year-old’s form and his ability to play anywhere across the frontline would make him an asset for our club. And, as per the aforementioned report, Rennes are prepared to sell Niang, should an offer of €20m come along in the summer.

Given the current state of the transfer market, shelling out €20m for an in-form, relatively young forward, who has prior experience in the Premier League with Watford would be a good deal for the club. However, it now remains to be seen if Daniel Levy and Mourinho do act upon the interest in the Senegalese.
