Jose Mourinho ready to sell four Tottenham players to secure Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg transfer
According to a report from The Times, Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is intent on securing the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer. To that end, he is ready to offload four players to fund a move for the Danish international.
Hojbjerg, 24, has been linked heavily with a move to Tottenham of late. The Southampton captain is entering the final year of his contract with the club, with an exit looking like a strong possibility this summer.
The report states that Tottenham were hoping to sign him for a transfer fee of around £20m. However, Southampton want £35m for their captain, despite him entering the final year of his contract.
It is no secret that finances are restricted at Tottenham due to coronavirus crisis. Mourinho is unlikely to have a large transfer kitty to splash in the market. Hence, the club is considering the prospect of offloading four players in order to generate funds for Hojbjerg. (h/t The Times)
The four players that could be sold are Danny Rose, Kyle Walker-Peters, both of whom are out on loan, along with Eric Dier and Serge Aurier. (h/t The Times)
Both Rose and Walker-Peters were loaned out to Newcastle United and Southampton respectively in the January transfer window. This despite there being a lack of depth in the full-back department, indicating that the duo aren’t going to be a part of Mourinho’s plans moving forward.
Serge Aurier is currently the only senior right-back at Jose’s disposal. But the Ivorian has been a huge liability at the back. And his rule-breaking streak during the lockdown period is something that has left the club displeased. So, there have been reports that Mourinho would listen to offers for him as well.

Dier’s name though, comes as a bit of a surprise. Mourinho is a known admirer of the England international. And recent reports have claimed that the club are working towards extending his current contract.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham do end up selling these aforementioned stars in order to sign Hojbjerg.
