Tottenham Hotspur’s friendly against Reading called off
According to a report from Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur’s friendly against EFL Championship side Reading that was scheduled for Saturday, has been cancelled.
News of Jose Mourinho arranging a friendly with the Royals broke yesterday, as the Portuguese ramped up preparations ahead of the return of the Premier League.
However, according to the latest update, it has been called off, following Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Norwich City in another friendly encounter earlier on Friday. (h/t Football.london)
This would mean that we will now go directly into the game against fellow top four hopefuls Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next Friday.
Speaking of Tottenham’s defeat to Norwich, our team took the lead through Erik Lamela. But by the time the game was over Mourinho had a near-youth team out on the pitch. The Canaries, capitalizing, scored two late goals to bag the win.
While the result may not have gone our way, there isn’t a need to read too much into it. For the friendly was for our players to build up match fitness ahead of the game against Manchester United next week.

As things stand, Tottenham are currently eighth in the Premier League table. We are seven points below Chelsea in the fourth place.
With just nine matches left, there is absolutely no room for slip-ups once the season resumes, if we are to finish within the top four and play Champions League football next season.
The friendly against Reading getting called off means that there will no additional match practice. Mourinho will work with the squad at The Hotspur Way in order to get the players fit and firing.
