According to reputed journalist Nicolo Schira (h/t Daily Star), Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier is demanding wages of £4.5m-a-year, as negotiations over a new contract begin.

Dier has been with Tottenham since 2014, having arrived from Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon. The 26-year-old grew into a key member of the team under Mauricio Pochettino. Till date he has featured 235 times for Spurs, scoring and assisting 11 goals each.

However, his form has dipped over the past year or so. This had seen him get phased out of the team early on in the season. Upon the appointment of Jose Mourinho though, Dier has once again been a regular feature in the starting XI.

Dier is entering the final year of his contract with the club, leading to speculations over his future. However, it seems like the club are working on tying down the England international to a new contract.

And as per the update provided by Schira (h/t Daily Star), Dier is demanding wages of £4.5m-a-year, which works out to £85,000 per week. Currently, the 26-year-old is on a salary of a little over £60,000-a-week.

Any contract signing is likely to hinge on assurances from the club over him being used as a centre-back going forward. Dier recently made it clear that he sees himself as a central defender and would like to play in that position regularly henceforth. (h/t Daily Star)

“As I’ve said, centre-back is a position where I see my future, where I think I can be the best I can be.”
