Jose Mourinho tipped to sign Olivier Giroud from Chelsea by Kevin Phillips

In an interview with Football Insider (h/t Express), former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips has backed Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho to sign Olivier Giroud from former employers Chelsea this summer.

It is no secret that Tottenham are in need of adding depth in the centre-forward position. Apart from Harry Kane, we don’t have any other striker in the ranks. And that came to haunt us this season, with the club suffering during the England captain’s injury-enforced absence.

This has seen get us linked with a number of strikers such as Vedat Muriqi. The latest entrant on the list of potential targets is Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud.

The 33-year-old World Cup winner has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. He has featured just 13 times in all competitions this term, bagging three goals in the process.

This has seen him get linked with a number of clubs, including Tottenham. The report also claims that Mourinho is a fan of the Frenchman and had tried to sign him in January. (h/t Express)

“It looks like Giroud is back on their list so that could be a possible. It would not be a bad price and he would be a good fit as a back-up striker.”
