Southampton strip Tottenham target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg of club captaincy
According to a report from Sky Sports, Southampton have removed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as club captain, amid links with a summer switch to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Saints midfielder has been heavily linked with a summer move away from the club, with Tottenham touted to be his next destination.
Hojbjerg’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2021, and he has made it clear that he does not want to extend his contract, which has led to this decision, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed. (h/t Sky Sports)
“No, he will not be captain. I spoke with him and we had an agreement, and made clear that if you decide not to extend your contract, you will not be captain of this team.”
This can be seen as a major boost for Tottenham in the pursuit of the midfielder. Jose Mourinho is reportedly intent on landing the Dane and is ready to offload four players in order to fund a move for him.
Southampton stripping Hojbjerg of captaincy caused plenty of excitement among the Tottenham fans, who took to social media to react to the update. Here are some of the reactions from the supporters of our club on the news.
