Tottenham, Liverpool step up interest in West Ham starlet Jeremy Ngakia
According to a report from Read Liverpool (h/t Burnley Express), Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their interest in in West Ham United defender Jeremy Ngakia, but will face competition from Premier League champions-elect Liverpool.
The 19-year-old Ngakia is a product of the Hammers’ youth academy, where he has been since 2014. The right-back made his senior debut in January earlier this year, against Liverpool. Till date, he has featured four times for the first-team and is yet to score or assist a goal.
Ngakia’s contract with West Ham expires at the end of the month. The youngster has reportedly turned down a new deal offered by the club, casting his future in doubts. In fact, manager David Moyes has all but confirmed that the 19-year-old will leave at the end of the month when his deal expires.
A number of clubs have been put on alert by the situation, including Liverpool and Tottenham. In fact, the report even goes on to add that our club has already opened talks with Ngakia’s representatives over the possibility of a switch. (h/t Burnley Express)
It is no secret that our club is lacking depth in the right-back department. Tottenham sold Kieran Trippier last summer and allowed Kyle Walker-Peters to join Southampton on loan in January. This has left us with just Serge Aurier as the only recognised right-back in the squad.
It has been reported that a move for Thomas Meunier is in the works. However, bringing in a young and promising full-back like Ngakia at no cost to act as a backup wouldn’t be the worst idea by the club.
