Tottenham miss out on Thomas Meunier signing, as Borussia Dortmund move edges closer
As reported by Bild (h/t Sky Sports), Tottenham target Thomas Meunier is set to join German giants Borussia Dortmund after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires later this month.
The 28-year-old Meunier had been a top target for Spurs, given his experience and free agent status. In fact, Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho had reportedly spoken to the Belgian to convince him to move to North London.
Reports had claimed that we were in pole position to land the Belgian international this summer. However, Borussia Dortmund have beaten us to the signing of Meunier according to latest reports.
The defender will be joining the Bundesliga giants on a four-year deal at the end of this month. He reportedly refused a short-term extension from PSG to play in the remainder of the UEFA Champions League in August. (h/t Sky Sports)
There is no denying that a player of Meunier’s experience would have been a great fit at Tottenham. His availability on a free transfer only made it an even more attractive prospect at a time when finances have been affected. Naturally, the fans were left disappointed over the news that the club had failed to recruit the 28-year-old.
Fan Reactions
Thomas Meunier is off the market. He has agreed terms to sign with Dortmund.
One RB option off the table for Spurs. He would’ve added valuable veteran experience to our room.

Typical Spurs. Linked with most players but usually end up not signing anyone ⚽️👎

Can we get anything down? What was the problem here levy thought the deal was free meaning he didn’t have to pay wages? When he found out he did he said it’s not free then and pulled out
