Japhet Tanganga and Juan Foyth may not play again this season

Ahead of Tottenham’s game against Sheffield United on Thursday, manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that defenders Japhet Tanganga and Juan Foyth might not feature again this season. (h/t Football.london)

Tanganga, having broken into the first-team setup this season, had grown into a regular under Mourinho. The academy product had been used by the Portuguese quite frequently prior to the suspension of football.

However, a stress fracture in his back ruled him out for the restart of the season last month.

Foyth, on the other hand, has hardly featured under Jose. Injuries and erroneous displays when given a chance have meant he had fallen down the pecking order. However, given the unforgiving schedule, he could have been important in the final run-in, especially with his ability to play at right-back.

But the Argentine picked up a knee injury prior to the resumption of the season and now Mourinho has claimed neither him nor Tanganga might be available for the rest of the season. (h/t Football.london)

“Just Japhet Tanganga and Juan Foyth situations which we know will take probably until the end of the season.”

Both Foyth and Tanganga being unavailable means, Mourinho has little options at right-back beyond Serge Aurier. As a result, the boss revealed that Oliver Skipp and Gedson Fernandes had been training in the position. He also added that Moussa Sissoko and Toby Alderweireld can fill in if the need for rotation arises. (h/t Football.london)

It is an unfortunate situation for both Tanganga and Foyth. Hopefully the young defenders are able to mount a speedy recovery and play a part in the final few matches.
