Jose Mourinho provides update on the contract situation of Eric Dier

As reported by Football.london, Jose Mourinho has issued an update on the contract situation of Tottenham defender Eric Dier, claiming that the club is ready to hand him a new deal and the player too is intent on staying.

The 26-year-old England international entered the final year of his contract with Tottenham. Having been at the club since 2014, Dier has grown into a key member of the side. Although, his form had dipped over the past year, he has improved tremendously since Jose Mourinho took over.

In fact, barring the penalty he conceded against Manchester United, Dier has been our best player in the two matches since the restart of the Premier League campaign last month. Moving him back into his preferred centre-back role has paid off so far.

With his contract expiring in another year, there have been concerns that we might end up with another situation similar to that of Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen.

However, Mourinho has allayed those fears to an extent, claiming that chairman Daniel Levy is ready to hand Dier a new deal. The manager also insisted that the 26-year-old is happy at the club and wants to prolong his stay. (h/t Football.london)

“My boss Mr Levy tells me that he wants Eric to sign a new contact and Eric tells me that he’s more than happy here, more than happy with his situation, especially now that he feels we have a certain idea for him and the deal. And he tells me also that he wants very much to stay.”
