Graeme Souness claims unhappy Dele Alli may leave Tottenham

Speaking on Sky Sports (h/t Express), former Liverpool manager and TV pundit Graeme Souness has claimed that Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli could leave the club after being snubbed for the starting lineup against Sheffield United.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho made a number of changes to the team that had defeated West Ham United in the previous match nine days ago. And Alli was one among the alterations, with the England international getting dropped to the bench.

And Souness thinks that Alli is unlikely to be happy about how things are currently. While he acknowledged that it may just be squad rotation, the pundit added that a player like Alli would conisder moving on if he is not first-choice at the club. (h/t Express)

“Yeah [it may be rotation] but if you’re Dele Alli you’re not going to hang around if you’re not first choice. I don’t think he will be happy just being a squad member.”

Souness’ claims were backed up by former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp, who claimed that a player of Alli’s calibre will not be happy to be behind Moussa Sissoko and Giovani Lo Celso. (h/t Express)

“That midfield as well, when you look at it. It’s [Moussa] Sissoko, [Giovani] Lo Celso and he’ll be thinking: ‘I should really be in that team’.”

It is quite absurd of Souness to make such a claim just based on Alli being benched for a game.

The 24-year-old has had an indifferent season, no doubt. But he had shown great improvement once Jose Mourinho took over the reins. And the Portuguese has time and again praised the midfielder.

It just sounds like another preposterous statement from a pundit who is known to make those regularity.
