Andros Townsend believes Jose Mourinho’s presence will convince Harry Kane to stay
Speaking on talkSPORT (h/t Daily Mail), former Tottenham Hotspur star Andros Townsend has claimed that Jose Mourinho’s presence in the dugout will convince star striker Harry Kane to stay put at the club.
Kane’s future had been a subject of transfer speculation, after the England captain claimed that he wouldn’t be hesitant to leave, should he feel the club was not matching his ambitions of winning trophies.
This had led to a flurry of interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United. However, Kane’s former teammate, Andros Townsend, has claimed that Mourinho’s trophy record in the past should convince him to stay put at the club. (h/t Daily Mail)
“I’m certain that Jose Mourinho will win a trophy during his time at Spurs. Whether that is the League Cup or the FA Cup or the Premier League and the Champions League, I don’t know. But I feel with the manager that they have, they can fulfil Harry Kane’s ambitions and I hope they do.”
Kane is undoubtedly one of the best centre-forwards in the game currently. And it is natural for any top player to want to be winning trophies. Despite our rise under Mauricio Pochettino, the closest we came to winning silverware was the last season’s appearance in the Champions League final.
But with Mourinho in charge, that may change. Indeed, the Portuguese is a serial winner, having won trophies at every club he has managed. And while he may have had a rocky start to his spell at Tottenham, given time, he has what it takes to bring us trophies.
