AS Monaco want to sign Tottenham star Serge Aurier

According to a report from Sky Sports, French Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco are plotting a summer raid on Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of defender Serge Aurier.

The 27-year-old joined Tottenham in the summer of 2017 from Monaco’s rivals PSG. However, his time at Tottenham hasn’t been all too memorable, with the Ivorian costing the team on quite a few occasions with his defensive blunders.

Following Kieran Trippier’s departure last summer, Aurier became the first-choice right-back for Tottenham this term. But the Ivorian has been inconsistent once again, although going forward he has impressed a great deal. In 35 appearances in all competitions, the 27-year-old has scored twice and assisted eight more goals.

Aurier’s future at the club had been cast into doubts after the full-back broke lockdown regulations on two occasions. However, since the restart of the season, the former PSG man had impressed, before putting in a horrible display against Sheffield United.

Monaco, though, are now plotting a swoop for the 27-year-old. The Principality outfit recently hired Paul Mitchell, formerly of Tottenham, as their sporting director. And it is claimed that he is the driving force behind the club’s pursuit of Aurier ahead of the summer.

Aurier still has two years left on his current contract with Tottenham. While Spurs have been linked with a number of right-backs of late, given the lack of depth in the right-back slot, it does seem unlikely that the Ivory Coast international will be sold this summer.

While he did look solid against Manchester United and West Ham, the 27-year-old will not have earned any favours from his latest display. It remains to be seen if the club do decide to cash in on him.
