Tottenham interested in Barcelona defender Emerson
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo (h/t Football.london), Tottenham are targeting a summer swoop for Barcelona’s Brazilian defender Emerson, who is currently out on loan at Real Betis.
The 21-year-old started out at Brazilian club Sao Paulo and spent time with Ponte Preta and Atletico Mineiro, before joining Real Betis on loan in January 2019. Six months later, Barcelona signed him on a permanent deal in the subsequent summer, before loaning him out to Betis again.
Emerson has enjoyed a fine 2019/20 campaign with Real Betis. In 29 La Liga games this term, the Brazilian has made a handy contribution of 3 goals and 5 assists.
The 21-year-old has another year on his loan deal with Betis, but Barcelona are now considering cutting that agreement short as they look to cash in on him amid interest from several clubs, including Tottenham. (h/t Football.london)
The right-back slot has been a bit of a concern for Tottenham this season. Having allowed Kieran Trippier to leave last summer, the club did not bring in any replacement. This left Serge Aurier as the only senior right-back in the squad. Loaning out Kyle Walker-Peters in January further weakened the right-back department.
With Walker-Peters likely to be offloaded permanently in the summer, it becomes imperative that a new right-back is signed in the summer. Emerson, to that end, would be a fine addition for the club.
In his 18 months with Betis, the Brazilian has shown he can cut it out at the highest level. At 21, he has his entire career in front of him and would be a long-term addition to the club.

Apart from Tottenham, the likes of Everton, Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund are also keen on the 21-year-old. It remains to be seen if the club does make a move for the Brazilian in the summer.
