Jermain Defoe urges Tottenham to sign Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake
Speaking on the Beautiful Game Podcast (h/t Football.london), former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has urged the Londoners to make a move for his ex-Bournemouth teammate Nathan Ake this summer.
Ake came through the youth ranks at our rivals Chelsea. But having grown frustrated over the lack of a clear pathway to the first-team, he joined Bournemouth in 2017, after a loan spell at Watford and a short temporary stint with the Cherries themselves.
During his time at the Vitality Stadium, Ake has grown into one of the most reliable young defenders in the Premier League. While the Cherries have endured a difficult campaign this time out, the 25-year-old Dutchman has stood out with impressive displays at the back.
With Bournemouth staring at the possibility of relegation, they might be forced to sell some of their top players this summer. And Defoe, who briefly played with Ake at the club, has urged former employers Tottenham to sign the Netherlands international. (h/t Football.london)
“I would love to see him at Tottenham you know. He’s got so much potential. He’s technically good, Dutch players always are. Scores a lot of goals from set-pieces, he is really brave which is good. I would love to see him get to the next level and play in the Champions League. I feel he is that good, I’m sure.”
Given our defensive struggles this season, we could very much use a defender of Ake’s quality in our ranks. The 25-year-old has proven his mettle in the Premier League and has grown into a mainstay for the Dutch national team as well.
