Tottenham interested in signing AS Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo
According to Italian publication La Repubblica (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing AS Roma sensation Nicolo Zaniolo in the summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old Zaniolo came through the youth ranks at Genoa, before switching to the Fiorentina youth setup in 2010. He spent six years at the club, before joining Entella in 2016 and a year later he was signed by Inter Milan.
Zaniolo never made a first-team appearance for the Nerazzurri, and moved to AS Roma in 2018, where he enjoyed an impressive breakthrough campaign. In 36 appearances across all competitions, he scored six goals and assisted three more in 2018/19 campaign.
The 21-year-old had been in good form during the 2019/20 campaign as well, before a cruciate ligament rupture sidelined him in January. He did make a comeback earlier this month and has looked in good nick. Till date, he has seven goals and two assists from 27 matches in all competitions this term.
The report states that Tottenham are ‘long-term admirers’ of the attacking midfielder, who can play on either flanks as well. The Lilywhites are interested in signing the 21-year-old, however Roma’s asking price might prove to be a problem. Indeed, the Giallorossi want around £63m for the attacking midfielder. The only way that Tottenham will be able to meet that is demand is by offloading one or more players this summer. Record signing Tanguy Ndombele has been heavily linked with an exit of late, and the proceeds from his sale could be utilised in signing Zaniolo. (h/t Football.london)

Zaniolo, given his age and potential, would be an excellent addition to our club. However, given the current financial situation, it is highly unlikely that the club will be able to meet Roma’s asking price.
