Tottenham increasingly confident of signing Kim Min-jae
According to a report from 90min.com (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are increasingly confident of signing South Korean defender Kim Min-jae from Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan.
The 23-year-old has been with the Chinese outfit since January last year and has grown into a key member of the team. In 94 senior career across all his clubs, Kim has scored three goals and assisted one more.
Dubbed as the ‘South Korean Virgil van Dijk’ for his imposing physical stature, reports of Tottenham’s interest in Kim emerged last month.
Along with us, Kim is being courted by Everton, Southampton, Watford in the Premier League, while RB Leipzig, Porto and Lazio are all interested in signing the South Korean international. (h/t The Guardian)
The report adds that Tottenham have already made two bids for the 23-year-old centre-back. However, both offers have been dismissed by Beijing Guoan as they are well below their valuation of £15m. However, Tottenham remain confident of sealing the deal for the 30-time capped South Korean international.
A source told 90min.com (h/t Express):
“Talks are ongoing, two bids have been rejected but everyone around the deal believes the situation will be concluded.”
With Tottenham set to lose Jan Vertonghen once his contract expires, signing a new centre-back should be a top priority for Jose Mourinho & co.

Kim, to that end, would be a solid addition to the club’s ranks. While there are a number of clubs vying for his signing, the presence of Son Heung-min, who is his international teammate, could give us the edge in the race for the 23-year-old.
Hopefully, the club is able to close the deal for the South Korean at the earliest.
