Tottenham will have to pay €35m for Morgan Sanson

According to a report from French publication Le Phoceen (h/t Football.london), Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson is headed for an exit this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur being touted as his next destination.

The 25-year-old midfielder came through the youth ranks at Le Mans and went on to join Montpellier in 2013, where he spent close to four years. In January 2017, Sanson made the switch to Marseille and has grown into a key player for the team.

Till date, he has featured 138 times for the Ligue 1 outfit, scoring 23 goals and giving 19 assists. The 2019/20 campaign was a decent one for the 25-year-old, as he finished with 5 goals and 5 assists apiece from 27 Ligue 1 outings.

Sanson has been linked with a move to Tottenham for quite some time now. And Marseille are desperate to generate funds, due to which they are now ready to offload the Frenchman, with Tottenham being reported as his next destination. The report further adds that the Ligue 1 outfit will demand €35m (£31.7m) for Sanson.  (h/t Football.london)

While Sanson is a good enough player, the question will be where he fits into the scheme of things at Tottenham. As things stand, the club has plenty of options in the centre of the park.

And with Jose Mourinho understood to be prioritising a move for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, it does look a tad unlikely that the club would want to bring another central midfielder.

The only plausible scenario when a move for Sanson would be viable is if the club decides to offload Tanguy Ndombele. The 23-year-old has endured a torrid time in his first season in England and has seemingly fallen out of favour with manager Mourinho.

However, the Portuguese has insisted that Ndombele remains a part of his plans going forward. So, it remains to be seen if there is any truth to these Sanson rumours.
