Tottenham planning to hijack Napoli’s move for Victor Osimhen

According to RMC Sport editor Mohamed Bouhafsi (h/t Football.london) Tottenham are looking to make a late swoop to try and sign Lille striker Victor Osimhen, who is closing in on a transfer to Napoli.

The 21-year-old Osimhen has been on the radars of Tottenham for quite a while now. Having moved to Lille only last summer from Belgian outfit RSC Charelroi, the Nigerian enjoyed a fine debut campaign, finishing with 18 goals and 6 assists from 38 matches in all competitions.

Given the lack of depth in the centre-forward department at Tottenham, it goes without saying that a new striker should be a top priority for Jose Mourinho & co. this summer. Osimhen, to that end, would be a viable target for the club.

However, it was reported last month that the 21-year-old was close to signing for Serie A giants Napoli. The aforementioned update from Bouhafsi claims that while Osimhen wants to join the Italian outfit, the club is yet to negotiate with his agents, which has created an opening for other clubs to swoop in. And, Tottenham are one among two Premier League clubs who are now looking to make the most of this situation. Amidst all this, Lille manager Christophe Galtier has confirmed that striker Victor Osimhen will leave the Ligue 1 club. (h/t Football.london)

“Regarding Victor and Gabriel [Magalhaes], yes, I’ve known for a long time that they’re leaving.”

Osimhen’s agent had previously revealed that he has held talks with Spurs’ boss Mourinho. However, he had also expressed concerns over the possibility of the 21-year-old having to play second-fiddle to Harry Kane.

However, with the club still interested in the Nigerian, they will need to act fast to pry him away from under the clutches of Napoli.
