Agent of 18-goal Ligue 1 star reveals talks with Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho

Agent of Victor Osimhen reveals talks with Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho

In an interview with Nigerian newspaper The Cable (h/t Evening Standard), Ariyo Igbayilola, who is the agent of Lille striker Victor Osimhen, has revealed that he had talks with Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho over the possibility of a summer move.

Osimhen moved to Lille only last summer from Belgian club RSC Charleroi. He has enjoyed a fine debut campaign in France, bagging 18 goals and six assists in 38 matches in all competitions. This has led to serious interest in his services from a number of clubs across Europe, including Tottenham.

Osimhen’s agent, Igbayilola, has now revealed that he did speak to our manager Jose Mourinho over the subject of a summer transfer. But he ruled out a switch for the young striker to Spurs as he would be playing second-fiddle to star man Harry Kane. (h/t Evening Standard)

“We told Mourinho that if he wants Victor, will Harry Kane be leaving? If Kane is still playing for Tottenham will Victor play? Because he will always be benched for him. Kane is their number one striker and he is the captain of England.”

It goes without saying that Tottenham are in need of a new striker heading into the summer transfer window. Our lack of depth in the area was brutally exposed after Kane’s injury earlier this year. The likes of Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn can play in the centre-forward role, but aren’t natural strikers.

A move for Osimhen would have been great from the club’s perspective. The Nigerian is young and has been in great form over the course of the last season. However, his agent his categorically ruled out a transfer, claiming that his client would join a club where he would play week in week out and not sit on the bench. (h/t Evening Standard)
