Southampton accept Everton’s £25m bid for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
According to a report from the Evening Standard, Southampton have accepted an offer of £25m from Everton for the services of Tottenham target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The 24-year-old is in the final year of his current contract with the Saints and had refused to pen an extension. This led to the club relieving him of captaincy duties last month. Ever since, an exit has been mooted for the former Bayern Munich midfielder, with Tottenham touted to be his favoured destination.
However, Everton have been very much pro-actiove in their pursuit of the Denmark international. The Toffees had already had two offers rejected for Hojbjerg, but have now been able to reach an agreement over a £25m fee with Southampton. (h/t Evening Standard)

This ought to come as a major blow for Tottenham, given that Jose Mourinho had identified the Denmark international as his primary transfer target heading into the summer.
Although, The Telegraph’s Jeremy Wilson has reported that Tottenham have now decided to make a late entry into the bidding war to try and sign Hojbjerg. But given that the club had been well off of Everton’s previous bids, it remains to be seen if we do match their latest offer.

Having moved Eric Dier back into the central defence, a new defensive midfielder is a must-buy for us this summer. Hojbjerg, to that end, would have been the perfect addition. At 24, he still has best years ahead of him, while he is experienced in the Premier League as well.
However, it looks like Mr. Levy has botched this up.
