Darren Bent tips Tottenham to make a move for Tyrone Mings
In an interview with Football Insider (h/t Express), former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent has tipped the club to make a move for Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings in the summer.
The 27-year-old Mings has been with Aston Villa for eighteen months, having joined the club back in January 2019 initially on loan. He played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League last term, following which the transfer was made permanent.
While the Villans have struggled this season, Mings has put in a number of credible performances at the back. He has featured 32 times in the Premier League this season, contributing with two goals and assists apiece. The centre-back even broke into the England national team in October last year.
And Bent has insisted that Tottenham should consider making a move for the 27-year-old in order to bolster the backline this summer. (h/t Express)
“I thought what about Tyrone Mings going from Aston Villa to Spurs? £30million, natural left-sided player, he’s got a little bit of pace about him as well and so that could work. I’d be surprised if they’re not in the market for him.”
It is no secret that our defence has been nowhere near its best this season. Furthermore, with Jan Vertonghen’s contract expiring, adding another centre-back should be a priority for Jose Mourinho & co.
Mings, to that end, would be a handy addition. The 27-year-old has experience in the Premier League and as Bent mentions, is a natural left-sided player, which would make him a like-for-like replacement for Vertonghen.

Mings has the potential to be a solid addition to the ranks. It will be interesting to see if the club does pay heed to Bent’s advice.
