Tottenham Hotspur offered a chance to sign Islam Slimani

According to a report from ESPN, Tottenham have been given the opportunity to sign Leicester City striker Islam Slimani in the summer transfer window.

The 32-year-old Slimani has been on the Foxes’ books since 2016. However, he has never established himself as a regular at the club. The Algerian international has had loan spells away at Newcastle United, Fenerbahce and most recently AS Monaco.

Slimani spent the 2019/20 campaign with the Ligue 1 outfit and managed to come up with a handy return of 9 goals and 7 assists from 19 appearances across all competitions.

Now back at Leicester, Slimani’s contract with the club runs out in less than a year. This could prompt them to cash in on him this summer, rather than losing him on a free a year down the line. And as per the aforementioned report, Tottenham have been offered a chance to sign the 32-year-old.

Tottenham have been hampered by the lack of a backup for star striker Harry Kane. While it is true that both Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn can play through the centre, both are more comfortable in their natural habitat on the flanks.

So, bringing in someone to cover for the England captain this summer should be a top priority for Jose Mourinho & co. And while Slimani might not be most popular choice, he may just get the job done.

A target man in the mould of strikers Mourinho likes, he could perfectly essay the role Fernando Llorente did for us a year ago. In addition, he already has exposure to the Premier League and will not need time to adapt. Given his age, he wouldn’t have any qualms of being the backup to Kane either.
