Darren Bent backs Tottenham to make a move for Weston McKennie
Speaking with Football Insider (h/t Football.london), former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent has backed the club to sign Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie in the summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old United States midfielder came through the youth ranks at FC Dallas, before making the switch to Schalke in 2016. Having spent a year with the club’s U19 setup, McKennie broke into the first-team and has gone on to feature 91 times till date, scoring five goals and setting up seven more.

McKennie found the back of the net on three occasions in the 2019/20 campaign, having made 28 Bundesliga appearances. A key member of the team, the USMNT international can play as a midfielder or in defence.
However, Schalke are facing a financial crunch due to the effects of the coronavirus and may have to sell players in the summer, with McKennie among those who could be offloaded. The 21-year-old midfielder is likely to cost around £20m. (h/t Football.london)
And Bent has insisted that someone of his profile, for that transfer fee, would represent a good buy for Tottenham. (h/t Football.london)
“We know the Coronavirus has hit people hard, we understand that, but at the same time he is a very Spursy signing, very, very Spursy. The money’s got to be right and at £20million, you’d think it’s not that much, especially in today’s market. It’s very doable.”

McKennie has also claimed that he would be open to a switch to the Premier League this summer.
However, with Tottenham keen on the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, splashing the cash on another midfielder does seem a tad unlikely.
