Tottenham Hotspur leading race for Callum Wilson

According to a report from The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are currently the front-runners in the pursuit of Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.

The 28-year-old Wilson has been a consistent performer for the Cherries over the years. Having joined the club in 2014, he played an integral role in their promotion to the Premier League in 2015. He has been a regular goalscorer in the top flight ever since.

However, he could not help Eddie Howe’s team avoid relegation to the Championship, as Bournemouth finished 18th in the 2019/20 Premier League. Wilson ended the campaign with eight goals and three assists from 35 league appearances.

With the Cherries relegation confirmed, they could be set to lose a number of key players in the summer, with Wilson reportedly being one of them. And it seems like Tottenham are currently leading the chase to land the striker, who has four appearances for the England national team. (h/t The Sun)

It is no secret that Jose Mourinho & co. need a new centre-forward this summer. Tottenham have absolutely no backup for star striker Harry Kane at the moment. And the effects were felt quite badly when the England captain spent a lengthy spell out injured earlier this year.

So, bringing in a striker who can provide cover for Kane, while contributing with his fair share of goals would be a great move by the club. Wilson, to that end, might be a worthy candidate.

The 28-year-old has proven himself in the Premier League for a number of years now. In addition, with Bournemouth getting relegated, Wilson could be available for as little as £10m.
