Nicolo Zaniolo set to sign new contract with AS Roma

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport (h/t Football.london), AS Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo is set to sign a new contract with the club, amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 21-year-old Zaniolo has grown into one of the most coveted young footballers in the Serie A. He made the switch to Roma from Inter Milan in 2018 and has gone from strength to strength.

Despite having endured an injury-riddled 2019/20 campaign, the Italian international has managed to impress, scoring eight goals and setting up two more in 30 games.

With Roma’s finances hit hard by the coronavirus crisis, it had been speculated that the club could be set to sell some of their biggest stars, with Zaniolo being one among them.

This had led to interest from Tottenham Hotspur, with reports even claiming that the Londoners were willing to offer €50 million for the attacking midfielder’s services.

However, a move is unlikely to take place now, as Zaniolo is claimed to be closing in on a new contract with the Giallorossi.

This comes on the back of an update provided by Roma manager Paulo Fonseca, who recently insisted that Zaniolo remains a key part of the club’s plans and will not be sold this summer.
