According to a report from Le 10 Sport (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur will face competition from bitter rivals Arsenal in the race to sign Olympique Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson.

The 25-year-old Sanson came through the youth ranks at Le Mans and joined Montpellier in 2013, where he spent around four years. In January 2017, Sanson made the move to Marseille. In over three years at the club, he has grown into a key player.

Till date, Sanson has featured 138 times for the Ligue 1 outfit, scoring 23 goals and setting up 19 more. The 2019/20 campaign was a decent one for the Frenchman, as he finished with 5 goals and 5 assists each from 27 Ligue 1 matches.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old Sanson for a while now. With Marseille intent on generating funds this summer, they will be moving him on. And Spurs had been mooted as his next destination. (h/t Football.london)

However, Arsenal have now emerged as a potential contender for the signing of the French midfield ace. The Gunners, in fact, have already established contact with Sanson’s representatives over the possibility of a summer transfer. (h/t Express)

While Sanson is a good enough player, the question would remain as to where he would fit into the scheme of things under Jose Mourinho. Tottenham already have a lot of options in the centre of the park, which have only been boosted by the acquisition of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton.

And with the club not looking to offload Tanguy Ndombele either, there doesn’t seem to be a need for another central midfielder this summer. Especially considering that there are other key areas in need of strengthening. So, we would do well to pass on the signing of Sanson.
