Tottenham to battle Liverpool for Ismaila Sarr
According to a report from the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for the signing of Watford winger Ismaila Sarr, who is also wanted by Liverpool.
The 22-year-old Sarr joined Watford from French outfit Stade Rennes only last year. While the Hornets ended up getting relegated from the Premier League, the Senegalese international emerged with a lot of credit for his performances in his debut season in England.
Sarr ended the 2019/20 campaign with a return of six goals and six assists in 30 appearances across all competitions. One of his best performances of the season came against Premier League champions Liverpool, when Watford brought an end to their unbeaten run in the league.
With the Hornets going down, Sarr has emerged as a potential target for a number of clubs including Liverpool. And now, Tottenham, too have entered the race to sign the Senegalese international. (h/t Mirror)
As things stand, we have quite a few quality options in the wide areas. Son Heung-min, Steven Bergwijn, Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura are all available at Jose Mourinho’s disposal. However, Moura struggled to deliver the goods in front of goal in the second half of the season, while Lamela’s future at the club is uncertain.
So, adding someone of Sarr’s quality would be a step in the right direction. The 22-year-old would add more flair and directness to our attack, while also adding a source of goals and creativity.

However, Liverpool’s interest in the winger could complicate matters. In addition, Manchester United are also interested in Sarr, meaning Watford could drive up the asking price for their prized asset. With limited budget on offer, Sarr might prove to be out of reach for us, should that happen.
