Bayer Leverkusen join AC Milan in Serge Aurier pursuit
According to Sky Sports, Bundesliga heavyweights Bayer Leverkusen have entered the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier, who is also being pursued by AC Milan.
The 27-year-old joined Tottenham in the summer of 2017 from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth £23m. However, he had to wait until the 2019/20 season to become a permanent fixture in the starting XI, with Kieran Trippier leaving the club.
Aurier ended the recently concluded campaign with two goals and eight assists from 42 appearances across all competitions.
The Ivory Coast international was impressive in the attacking side of things, but remained a major liability at the back. And as per the report, Tottenham are willing to offload him this summer, in order to generate funds to sign manager Jose Mourinho’s transfer targets.
AC Milan have been embroiled in negotiations with the club to secure the signing of Aurier for quite some time now. However, a disagreement in transfer fee valuation between the two clubs has led to the deal stagnating.

At the same time, reports in Italy (h/t Football.london) are claiming that with Leverkusen’s entry into the race, Milan have upped the ante in their efforts to land Aurier.

It seems certain that Aurier will be on his way out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It remains to be seen where he ends up though.
Tottenham have already lost Kyle Walker-Peters this summer. And now Aurier seemingly set to depart, we will need to bring in a new right-back before the 2020/21 season kicks off next month.
