Tottenham interested in RB Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer

According to a report from the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in signing Marcel Sabitzer, who has enjoyed a stellar 2019/20 season, from German outfit RB Leipzig.

Sabitzer has been a key member of the RB Leipzig side since making the move to the club in 2015. The 26-year-old once again impressed heavily this season, playing a crucial role in the club’s third-place finish in Bundesliga and the semi-final run in the UEFA Champions League.

In 44 appearances across all competitions, the Austrian international plundered 16 goals and created 11 more, despite playing in a central midfield role for a large part of the season.

Sabitzer’s performances had seen him get linked with Tottenham. And, as per the report from Daily Star, the club remains interested in signing the 26-year-old.

The 42-time capped Austrian international is a versatile operator who can play in a multitude of positions, be it on the right wing, the No. 10 role or even in the middle of the park. Such flexibility, coupled with his eye for goals would make him an excellent addition to the squad.

More so, considering that Dele Alli had an indifferent campaign in 2019/20. Bringing in someone of Sabitzer’s quality would not only improve the overall quality of the squad, but also spur the likes of Alli and Erik Lamela to perform better.

Sabitzer still has two years left on his contract and is unlikely to come on the cheap. And with Leipzig playing Champions League football next season, we might find it difficult to convince him to trade it for Europa League. So, it remains to be seen if the club does make an approach for the Austrian.
