Tottenham express interest in Brighton’s Ben White
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are among a flurry of clubs interested in signing defender Ben White from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer.
The 22-year-old came through the youth ranks at Brighton academy. After loan spells at Newport County and Peterborough United, the centre-back spent the last term with Leeds United. White emerged as one of the best defenders in the Championship as Leeds won the title to earn promotion back to the Premier League.
Naturally, his exploits with Marcelo Bielsa’s team have attracted a lot of attention, with a number of Premier League clubs now keen on signing White, including Tottenham Hotspur. (h/t Daily Mail)
It is a given that our defence is in need of reinforcements following a disappointing campaign. Furthermore, the departure of Jan Vertonghen has opened up a vacancy in the backline that Jose Mourinho & co. must fill before heading into the new season.
And, White, to that end, would be a fine acquisition. An up and coming English player who has shown great defensive acumen, the 22-year-old could be the leader of our defence in the years to come. However, given the intense battle for his signing, it does seem a tad unlikely that we will be able to snap him up this summer.
Indeed, the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are all eyeing a swoop for the Englishman. All of them will be able to offer Champions League football. In addition, Leeds United are also keen on landing him on a permanent basis, while Leicester City are also interested. (h/t Daily Mail)

As if that is not enough, Brighton are holding out for a transfer fee in the range of £50m, which could be beyond our reach, given that the club is operating on a tight budget this summer.
