Tottenham in no mood to let Ryan Sessegnon leave this summer

According to a report from The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur have no intention of letting Ryan Sessegnon go this summer, amid serious interest from as many as seven clubs.

The 20-year-old Englishman joined the club from Fulham last year in a deal worth £25m. However, the young Englishman has endured a difficult debut campaign in London.

Injuries have hampered his progress a great deal, while new manager Jose Mourinho also did not offer him a lot of opportunities when fit and available. Sessegnon ended the 2019/20 campaign with just 12 appearances across all competitions, scoring and assisting a solitary goal apiece.

With his development stalling, this has led to speculations over his future at the club. The report from The Athletic claims that La Liga giants Barcelona made an enquiry to land the versatile full-back on loan, while the likes of Ajax, AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United and Celtic have also expressed an interest.

However, it is reported that Tottenham knocked back Barcelona’s approach without a second thought and have no plans whatsoever to let Sessegnon leave this summer.

Sessegnon showed signs that this season will certainly be different, impressing in the pre-season opener against Ipswich Town. The Englishman was on the scoresheet against the lower league side, and surely that is a sign of things to come.

It is good to see Mourinho show confidence in the youngster and hopefully we see the Sessegnon of his Fulham heydays in the coming season.
