Tottenham contact Benfica for Pizzi
According to Portuguese publication A Bola (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has made contact with Benfica for the signing of midfielder Pizzi.
The 30-year-old came through the youth ranks at SC Braga and had loan stints at GD Ribeirao, Covilha, Pacos Ferreira and Atletico Madrid. He joined the Madrilenian outfit permanently in January 2012, before being loaned out to Deportivo La Coruna only six months later.
A year later, Benfica signed Pizzi from Atletico, before sending him on loan to Espanyol for the 2013/14 term. Following that, he has been a regular for the Portuguese giants, racking up 281 appearances, in which he has scored 76 goals.
A versatile operator, Pizzi has been mainly playing on the right-side of the midfield of late, but can be used on the opposite flank as well as in a central role as well.
In a career spanning over 440 appearances, the Portuguese has scored 106 goals while setting up 99 more. Those are impressive numbers for a player who has mostly played as a central midfielder in his career.
Pizzi still has three years left on his current contract with Benfica, which he signed only last summer. However, Tottenham have expressed serious interest in signing him and have made contact with the club in order to explore the possibility of a transfer. (h/t Football.london)
It is claimed that a deal could be worked out for as little as €20m, which would be quite a bargain for a player of his experience and versatility.

Pizzi enjoyed a spectacular 2019/20 campaign, finishing with a whopping 30 goals and 19 assists in 53 matches in all competitions. His signing would bolster the quality and depth in our squad.
His goalscoring ability would help take some burden off of the shoulders of star striker Harry Kane as well. A formal approach is yet to be made for Pizzi, but talks are expected to intensify in the coming weeks. (h/t Football.london)
