Callum Wilson prefers summer switch to West Ham United

Tottenham Hotspur may have been dealt a major blow in the pursuit of Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, as sources close to the player claim that the 28-year-old prefers a move to West Ham United. (h/t The Sun)

The 28-year-old Wilson has been with Bournemouth since 2014, and has been a consistent performer for the Dorset-based club year after year. However, Wilson endured a sub-par 2019/20 campaign, scoring just eight league goals, as the Cherries ended up getting relegated from the Premier League.

In spite of this, interest in the four-time capped England international remains high. The 28-year-old is a summer of transfer target for a host of Premier League clubs, with Tottenham, Newcastle United, Fulham and West Ham United all keen on signing him. (h/t The Sun)

It has been claimed that Spurs’ boss Jose Mourinho is intent on landing the striker and will prioritise a move for him, after having signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart. However, as per The Sun, Wilson is said to be leaning towards a transfer to West Ham United, which will come as a blow for Spurs.

It is no secret that Tottenham need a new striker this summer. Mourinho currently does not have any natural backup for star centre-forward Harry Kane at his disposal. We suffered during the England captain’s injury-enforced absence last season and cannot go through the same fate again.

Wilson, to that end, would have been a solid addition to the squad. The 28-year-old has proven himself in the Premier League and has plenty of experience as well.

However, it seems like he wants to join our London rivals, meaning we may have to turn our attention elsewhere to land a backup striker.
