Tottenham rekindle interest in Gareth Bale
According to Spanish publication MARCA (h/t Manchester Evening News), Tottenham Hotspur have revived their interest in former star Gareth Bale, who could be sold by Real Madrid this summer.
The 31-year-old Bale burst onto the scenes as a supremely gifted youngster at Tottenham and grew into one of the most sought-after stars in Europe. The Welsh wing-wizard ended up sealing a mega-money transfer to Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, after having made 203 appearances, in which he scored 56 goals and assisted 58 more.
Bale’s time at Real Madrid has been very successful, but equally controversial. While he has won loads of trophies during his time in Spain, the Welshman has never really been able to endear himself to the supporters. And ever since Zinedine Zidane became manager for the second time, the 31-year-old has fallen out of favour at the club.
Bale ended the 2019/20 season with just 20 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and setting up two more. In an explosive interview recently, the Wales international confirmed that he wanted out of the club and would be open to a return to the Premier League.
And as per the aforementioned report, Tottenham have shown interest in the 31-year-old, given that manager Jose Mourinho, who signed Bale at Real Madrid, is a huge fan.
However, we will have to face competition from Mourinho’s former employers Manchester United, who are long-term admirers of the winger. In fact, the report even goes on to tip the Red Devils as favourites for Bale, as they are better-placed to afford his massive wages. (h/t MEN)

Bringing Bale back to the club would be a dream for any Tottenham fan. However, the financial side of things might not align with such a move, unless he is willing to take a huge salary cut. It remains to be seen if he makes his way back to the Premier League this summer.
