Metz striker Habib Diallo keen on Tottenham Hotspur switch

According to reliable journalist Alasdair Gold of Football.london, Metz striker Habib Diallo is open to a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs have made a trio of smart investments so far this summer. Having secured the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart, and Matt Doherty, attention has now turned to bring in a striker.

Harry Kane remains the only senior striker in the Tottenham squad. With no specialist striker to call on if he England captain gets injured, Spurs could risk racing the same crisis they did last season.

25-year-old Diallo has been with Metz since 2013, having joined them from Generation Foot academy in Senegal. A regular at the club since 2018, he played a major role in the club’s promotion to Ligue 1 in 2018/19.

A step up to the top flight did little to diminish his prolific streak. Diallo scored 12 goals in 26 appearances as the Ligue 1 season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Tottenham had been linked with a move for the Senegalese striker back in January. Despite making an offer for the forward, a move failed to materialize. But the club is showing interest in the forward once again this summer. And he, too, seems intent on a switch to London. (h/t Football.london)

While Diallo may not be the biggest name out there, his goalscoring record speaks for itself. More so, the prospect of bringing in a dependable backup to Kane and address major weakness in our squad is very much appealing.

With Europa League commitments to meet, it is imperative that we have a strong squad that can be rotated without a noticeable drop in quality.

The likes of Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura, and Steven Bergwijn can play up front if needed, none of them are natural strikers.

Moving them out of their natural positions as a stop-gap will be at best a half-measure. Going into another season without a backup striker could prove catastrophic.
