Leicester City enter race for Tottenham target Kim Min-jae
According to 90min.com (h/t Leicestershire Live), Tottenham Hotspur are set to face competition from Leicester City in the race to sign South Korean international Kim Min-jae.
The 23-year-old Kim joined Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan January last year, signing from Jeonbuk Motors. And, he has grown into a key member of the team. Till date, he has featured 43 times for the Chinese outfit, nine of which have come in the ongoing season. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Tottenham’s interest in the South Korean international came to light in June. Reports claimed that the club was confident of closing the deal for the 23-year-old as negotiations were held between the two clubs. However, not much progress has been made on the deal.
More recently, it emerged that Son Heung-min, who is Kim’s captain in the South Korea national team, was pushing the club to land the defender. However, it now seems like Tottenham will have to stave off competition from Premier League rivals Leicester City in order to sign the centre-back. (h/t Leicestershire Live)
The Foxes are desperate to sign a new centre-back and are eyeing a swoop for Wesley Fofana. However, St. Etienne are reluctant to sell, which has seen Leicester turn their focus towards Kim. (h/t Leicestershire Live)
Tottenham are in need of defensive reinforcements. While Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon have arrived to bolster the full-back slots, the club are yet to replace Jan Vertonghen, who left after the expiry of his contract in July.

The current options – Toby Aldweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier, haven’t looked all too convincing so far in the three games that we have played. And, adding someone like Kim, who is nicknamed the Monster, for his physical presence, could prove to be quite beneficial.
With just a couple of weeks left for the window to close, it will be interesting to see if the club makes a move for the South Korean.
