Gareth Bale could stay put at Tottenham Hotspur beyond the 2020/21 season
Speaking to TalkSport (h/t Sky Sports), the agent of Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale, Jonathan Barnett admits that his client could stay on at the club beyond the 2020/21 campaign.
The Welsh superstar returned to Spurs on a one-year loan deal from Real Madrid. Alongside Sergio Reguilon, he is one of our biggest captures of the summer.
It is a homecoming of sorts for the 31-year-old, who rose to fame at White Hart Lane. Seven years since bidding goodbye, he is back to where he rose to superstardom.
While Bale is in effect still a Real player, his agent admits that chapter of the player’s career is already over. Barnett refused to rule out Bale staying on for another year while also placing the onus of the decision on the Welshman.
“Yeah, there are lots of opportunities; it’s up to him.”
Barnett also went on to add that once Tottenham entered the equation, Bale had no interest in moving anywhere else.
“He had other choices but Tottenham is his love, he loves Tottenham and at the end of the day that’s the one he wanted.”
It was earlier confirmed by Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold that Spurs have the option of extending the loan by a further year.
Extending Bale’s loan for the second year will take him to the end of his current Real Madrid contract. That could see the Spaniards lose him for free.
With the relationship between the player and the club in doldrums, it would not be a surprise to see both sides happy at that outcome.

Fans will have to wait for a while before seeing the player in Spurs colours. Bale is carrying a knee injury and will be match fit only after the October international break. If all goes well, he will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
