Journalist provides update on Tottenham starlet’s mooted loan move to EFL club

Jack Clarke not joining Birmingham City on loan

According to Birmingham Live’s Brian Dick, Tottenham Hotspur youngster Jack Clarke will not be joining Championship outfit Birmingham City on loan for the current season.

The 19-year-old Clarke joined Tottenham from Leeds United in July 2019 for a fee believed to be in the region of £10m plus add-ons. He joined after enjoying a breakthrough season in 2018/19 at Elland Road and was immediately loaned back to the club.

However, a lack of game time under Marcelo Bielsa saw Tottenham recall him from Leeds and loan him out to QPR. The Englishman didn’t play much for the R’s either, taking the field on just seven occasions before the 2019/20 season ended.

Back at Tottenham, Clarke hasn’t been part of the matchday squads for our first three matches of the season against Everton, Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Southampton.

As a result, another loan move was mooted for the teenage winger, with Birmingham City touted to be his temporary destination for the 2020/21 season. (h/t Birmingham Live)

However, as per the latest update from Brian Dick, the mooted loan transfer will not be taking place.

Clarke is unlikely to feature much for Tottenham this summer, in spite of the fixture pile-up awaiting Jose Mourinho’s side.

The manager already has a plethora of options for the wide areas currently in Lucas Moura, Son Heung-min, Steven Bergwijn, Erik Lamela, while Gareth Bale has also joined. In addition, should Ryan Sessegnon stay at the club, he too can be an option.

So, another loan stint away from the club makes the most sense for Clarke in order to continue his development. But, with a move to Birmingham seemingly off, it remains to be seen where the 19-year-old ends up.
