Reputed journalist dismisses Mourinho interest in signing Man United star

Jose Mourinho has no interest in signing Jesse Lingard

According to Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic, Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has no interest in raiding former club Manchester United for the signing of Jesse Lingard.

The 27-year-old Manchester United academy product was a regular under Jose during his stint at Old Trafford. However, the England international has endured a fall from grace over the past year or so and has struggled for game time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And it was claimed that Jose Mourinho was willing to offer him a chance to get his career back on track by signing him at Tottenham in a deal worth £30m. (h/t Daily Star)

However, Charlie Eccleshare has now dismissed those speculations, stating that there is no chance whatsoever that Lingard will be joining Tottenham, with Mourinho having no interest in signing him.

Lingard, over the past couple of years, has struggled to make any sort of impact while on the field. While he is a hard worker, the England international does not offer any sort of creativity in the final third, whereas his goal contributions have also dwindled.

So, signing him would have always been a major risk for Tottenham. More so, considering that a move for him would reportedly have been dependent on Dele Alli’s exit from the club.

It has been quite a solid window for Spurs so far. The signings of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart, Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale will serve to improve the quality of the squad.

However, we still need another striker and a centre-back, while bringing in a creative midfielder wouldn’t go amiss either.
