Steve Hitchen spotted in Italy as Milan Skriniar rumours gather momentum
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham Hotspur Technical Director Steve Hitchen was spotted in Italy amid the club’s interest in signing Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan.
Tottenham have been reported to be strongly interested in signing the 25-year-old Skriniar. And reports earlier this week claimed that the club were in negotiations with the Nerazzurri over the possibility of a summer transfer. (h/t Gianluca Di Marzio)
Things seem to have escalated over the past day or so as, Di Marzio has now claimed that Spurs’ director Steve Hitchen was spotted in Italy. It is claimed that he was in Milan to speak to the defender’s agent and describe to him the club’s project.
This is obviously a step in the right direction for Tottenham. Signing someone of Skriniar’s quality and proven pedigree would be a huge statement of intent from the club. Considering that our defence underperformed last season, adding someone like the Slovakian international will help solidify our backline.
However, the matter of agreeing a transfer fee with Inter remains a bone of contention. As per the report, Inter Milan are holding out for a fee of €60m for their defender. Tottenham, though, are willing to only as high as €50m, including add-ons.
More negotiations are expected in the coming week over the transfer fee. Inter have already identified Nikola Milenkovic and Chris Smalling as potential replacements, showing that they are ready to cash in on Skriniar. (h/t Gianluca Di Marzio)
