Jose Mourinho and Frank Lampard get into argument on touchline
As reported by the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho got into a heated exchange of words with former player and current Chelsea manager Frank Lampard on the touchline during their Carabao Cup game.
The incident took place during the first half of the game, after Chelsea had taken the lead through Timo Werner. Erik Lamela appeared to have put a hand on the face of Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma, for which he was penalized.
Mourinho, who was already agitated from going behind, took exception to something Lampard said on the touchline. Walking towards his former player, the Portuguese made chatterbox gestures with his hands, telling that he was talking too much. The Spurs boss then made signals to tell Lampard to take a seat in his team’s dugout. (h/t Daily Star)
Lampard responded in kind as things got heated between the pair before fourth official Andre Marriner had to step in and take control of the situation. The Blues’ boss was seen smiling after the incident occurred. (h/t Daily Star)
A late goal by Lamela forced the game into penalty shootouts, with a spot in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on the line. Tottenham scored each of their five kicks from the spot, but Chelsea’s Mason Mount botched their fifth one to send the Blues packing out of the tournament.
