Liverpool targeting out of favour Tottenham ace Paulo Gazzaniga
According to journalist Kevin Palmer on Twitter, Premier League champions Liverpool are eyeing a shock swoop for out of favour Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
The 28-year-old Argentine joined Tottenham from Southampton in the summer of 2017. However, he has largely played second-fiddle to the first-choice custodian and club captain Hugo Lloris.
Gazzaniga did get an extended run in the starting XI in the first half of the 2019/20 season with Lloris was sidelined with an elbow injury. However, he failed to make the most of his opportunities. In total, the Argentine international has featured 37 times for Spurs, conceding 43 goals, while managing only 10 clean sheets. (h/t Transfermarkt)
However, following the arrival of Joe Hart on a free transfer earlier this summer, Gazzaniga has dropped further down the pecking order. And, it has been claimed that Tottenham will look to cash in on him before the window closes.
Liverpool are now considering making a shock swoop for the Argentine custodian. The Reds’ first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker picked up an injury last week and (h/t Evening Standard). In addition, backup goalkeeper Adrian hasn’t inspired confidence while deputising for the Brazilian.
Furthermore, the Reds are considering loaning out young shot-stopper Caiomhin Kelleher, which would open up a slot in the goalkeeping department. And they are hoping to fill that with Gazzaniga’s signing, according to Palmer.
Rumours that Liverpool are looking at Spurs keeper Paulo Gazzaniga…
I interviewed a senior Liverpool coach last week and he hinted Caoimhín Kelleher would be best served to go out on loan at some point.
