Jose Mourinho expects Son Heung-Min to sign a new deal at Tottenham Hotspur
According to The Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho is confident Son Heung-Min will commit his future to the club.
The South Korean ace has been in top form since the season started. In fact, he has scored nine goals in six appearances and has struck up a solid partnership with Harry Kane.
Spurs are keen to hold onto their star attacker and want to extend the player’s contract beyond 2023. Given that he still has three years left on his current deal, Mourinho is not worried and will be patient.
“I would love that”
Mourinho would love nothing more than to see the 28-year-old stay on at the club. He revealed that Son is a much-cherished player in North London.
“I believe that he would like to commit his future to the club for a long time.”
Rather than just be a likeable player, Son is also a star on the pitch. He has time and again showcased his match-winning abilities for Spurs in recent years.
Given these contributions, there would be few arguments against him deserving a new deal.
“He deserves one, and the club knows that sooner or later without any pressure they will arrive into a decision.”
Signed from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, Son has more than repaid the trust put in him. Capable of playing in a variety of positions, he has scored 94 goals and assisted 51 in 237 games. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The way he is going this season, he should easily overtake his last year’s tally of 18 goals. It is clear that Son has stepped up massively this campaign. He could very well go on to have one of the best seasons of his career.
