Jose Mourinho takes a dig at Real Madrid after Gareth Bale fires Spurs to a win

As reported by the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has poked fun at former employers Real Madrid after Gareth Bale helped Spurs to an important win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.

The 31-year-old Welshman returned to Tottenham on loan from Real Madrid this past summer. And after a slow start to life in London, he made the first major contribution of his second spell with the Lilywhites on Sunday against Brighton.

Coming on as a substitute in the 70th minute, it took just three minutes for Bale to make an impact, as he headed home Sergio Reguilon’s inch-perfect cross to win the game for Spurs. It was the Wales international’s first goal for Spurs after seven years.

During that seven-year period, he tasted a great deal of success at Real Madrid before falling out with current manager Zinedine Zidane. So following his match-winning contribution for Spurs on Sunday night, Mourinho felt it is apt to take a swipe at the La Liga champions. (h/t Mirror)

“When I have five minutes I’m going on Safari (the internet) to the Real Madrid website to see what they say. I am so happy for him. Nice boy, full of commitment, loves the club and we love him here.”

Bale’s goal clinched an important victory for Tottenham, firing us up to second spot in the Premier League standings.

While the team’s performance as a whole wasn’t much to write home about, we can take pleasure from the fact that Mourinho & co. were able to grab three points even when not at their best. Up next for Spurs is a UEFA Europa League away game against Ludogorets on Thursday.
