The real reason why Sergio Reguilon was sold to Tottenham Hotspur
According to El Confidencial (h/t Daily Mail), the real reason for Sergio Reguilon joining Tottenham Hotspur from Real Madrid has been revealed.
The 23-year-old full-back enjoyed an excellent spell on loan at Sevilla last season. He was a key cog in the side that won the Europa League.
A return to Real Madrid was on the cards but did little to improve his prospects under Zinedine Zidane. The reason being a disagreement the player had with the coach’s son Luca Zidane.
Reguilon and Luca were managed by Zidane during their time in the Real B team. The young Spaniard was loaned out to Logrones at the start of the campaign in which the Frenchman was promoted to the senior team job.
He was also loaned out to Sevilla at the start of 2019-20 in Zidane’s first full season back at the Bernabeu.
With Marcelo and Ferland Mendy also established at the club, Reguilon was allowed to move on this summer after just 22 first-team appearances for Real.
Thank you Zidane!
Spurs were the beneficiaries of this clash as he joined the club in a deal worth £30million. His contract at the club runs until June 2025. However, we were forced to accept a buy-back clause of about £41m from Madrid.
Reguilon has enjoyed a fine start to life at Spurs. If he keeps at it, Real will have only more reasons to regret their decision.
Luca, meanwhile, has failed to thrive at Real. He joined Rayo Vallecano earlier last month. It would appear Reguilon is further ahead in his career than the Zidane offspring.

If the report is true, it is unprofessional of Zidane to show partiality. Not that we are complaining, thanks to his vendetta, we managed to score ourselves one of the best young left-backs in Europe.
